No one else has gone around the Moon in over 30 years.
Win one or two flights around the Moon. You would get to ride in two different space ships and in the International Space Station. We will also award four million frequent flier miles.
The mission would be designed, then conducted according to the principles described in Constellation Services International’s Lunar ExpressSM transportation system. In one scenario, the mission would likely use a special version of the Soyuz modified for flight around the Moon. The Soyuz would first dock for six months at the International Space Station (ISS) to be used as the stand-by crew escape vehicle. Just before the six months elapse, the Free Space Shot tournament winner would embark on another Soyuz to fly to the ISS. Each flight has a retail value of $100 million and a winner will get an additional $50 million for a single flight or $100 million for a flight for two.
An upper stage and logistics module would then be launched to an orbit near the ISS. The winner and other participants and crew would then transfer to the Luna-bound Soyuz, dock with the upper stage and logistics module and do something only two dozen people have ever done: personally see the far side of the Moon and return safely to the Earth.
The earliest the winner would be able to fly around the Moon would be approximately three years after winning the Free Space Shot tournament.
